This is not the best way to use Aeroplan miles but if you have Aeroplan miles burning a hole in your pocket.
Aeroplan is currently running a promotion until December 5, 2014 where you can save miles when redeeming for a gift card.
You will save about 500 miles per redemption. You will need to log into your account to see the promotion.
If you redeem for a $50 gift card it costs 6,500 miles and the regular price is 7000 Aeroplan miles.
