As a Canadian, Aeroplan is my favourite frequent flyer program. I have flown to Hawaii, Ontario and have a BIG trip planned for 2015 (future blog post).

I was shocked to hear that they have been around for 30 years!

Aeroplan 30th anniversary
Aeroplan 30th anniversary

They are constantly evolving and they try to improve the program ( I know many programs are being devalued but understand that it is a business and they have many great redemptions for Canadians). It basically started as a promotional tool for Air Canada’s business travelers but has evolved to the Distinction program with all sorts of retailers involved. It is also a spin off of Air Canada that was the first publicly traded loyalty company.

We have a great contest for our Canadian Travel Hacking and Boarding Area readers.

How about a chance to win 30,000 Aeroplan Miles  (That’s enough for 2 short-haul ClassicFlights or 1 long-haul ticket in North America or one-way ticket to Europe).

In order to qualify for a chance to win you will have to  like Aeroplan on Facebook and follow @Aeroplan on Twitter.

Simply tell us where you would go with the miles if we put 30,000 Aeroplan miles in your account?

This contest ends August 7, 2014.

DISNEYLAND! Our family has always wanted to go and we are trying our very best to make it a reality before they become teenagers.

It’s about time either AE or AC acknowledged this anniversary, which was officially either early last month when the program was launched (along with CP’s) or this month when mileage started to be earned. As a charter member, I recall the battle of the FF programs as both airlines ran full page ads in newspapers across the country to announce them. AC’s cost $25 though (waived for enRooute Club members) and CP’s was free.

We are saving for a family trip to Europe – we promised the kids as soon as their French is good enough to get us all by in Paris, we will go! This would help out a great deal!

Well.. I haven’t really researched Aeroplan miles yet, but at least that should be enough to take me to Canada from San Francisco. I miss poutine!’

Maybe I would go check out Montreal? Never been.

Aeroplan is a scam… it’s current incarnation is selling business class seats to star alliance customers that are actually Rouge premium offering lower luggage limits – poorer quality amenities on board. The only thing that is the same is the happy air canada service!

I took my first award trip back in 1992 (Australia in business class) and have been an Aeroplan fan ever since. I could use 30K for 2 tickets to NewYork – short hauls can be a great value since it costs at least $700 pp R/T to NYC from my small regional home airport. But really, I think I would like to go to the City of Lights, Paris, and those 30K points will get me there sooner. Thanks!

I would book the next trip to Spain, and head to the town of Bunol. Because that is the only place I can freely throw tomatoes, and have fun at the same time. To be crammed into this huge tomato fight, enjoying the time of my life! This only happens at the annual La Tomatina festival.

Crossing my fingers for this opportunity 🙂
