Canadian Travel Resources

Here are a list of my favourite travel resources for Canadians:

Canadian Frequent Flyer Programs

Aeroplan

This is the frequent flyer program for Air Canada.

Air Miles

Launched in Canada in 1992, the Air Miles Reward Program is owned and operated by LoyaltyOne, Inc.

Porter Airlines

VIPorter is the loyalty program for Porter Airlines.

Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines flies to many destinations in Western Canada.

Top Canadian Hotel Websites

Booking.com

This website is owned by Priceline but they guarantee the best prices for any type of property, from small, family-run bed and breakfasts to executive apartments and five-star luxury suites.  I like the interface and the fact that they have a best price guarantee.

Expedia.ca

I have used this website for years and has a great loyalty program with options for cruises, hotels, flights, and tickets for attractions.

Priceline

I have used this website to save hundreds and stay at 4 to 5 star hotels for the price of a 3 star hotel. Personal favourite was the 4 star Pan Pacific in Seattle for under $70!

Hotels.com

This website has the easiest hotel loyalty program (basically stay 10 nights and after the 10th night booked receive a free night equal to the average price paid).

AirBnb

I love this website when I want to stay in an expensive city but cannot afford a hotel. This lets you find houses, apartments and even treehouses with great prices. I even have my condo listed (to make extra travel money to get away). (Use  our referral and get $25 credit with your first booking)!

Top Canadian Travel Credit Cards

Starwood Preferred Guest American Express

This is the card I use for my daily spending. You get a 20% bonus when transferring Starwood points to airlines and hotel bookings start at a couple of thousand points. This is my primary travel card because of the good points program. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CARD.

Chase Marriott Visa Card

This is the card I use for when I travel to Europe or the US. I save approx 3% and earn Marriott points!

You earn between 30,000 and 50,000 bonus points after your first purchase and a free Night Stay at a Category 1-4 location after account approval. That equals up to 5 Free Nights at a Category 1 Hotel (or 4 free nights at a Category 2 hotel).

The main benefit is that this card has no Foreign Currency Transaction Charges on international purchases in addition to the exchange rate. They bill you in Canadian Currency if you use your account to make a transaction in foreign currency.

American Express Gold Rewards Card

Many people spend their travel dollars differently and you can use a travel agency, tour operator or even an online travel website to book your travel plans with these membership reward points that you earn. Charge last-minute flights, seat sales, car rentals, cruises, and more to your Card. Your points can even cover taxes and fees.

Once it charge appears on your statement, call American Express to redeem your points. You will not see any blackouts or seat restrictions in your way when you redeem.

You also have the option of transferring to to Aeroplan or other frequent flyer and hotel programs (usually on a 1 to 1 point basis).

Alaska Airlines Platinum Plus Mastercard

This card I also personally own, you receive 25,000 Bonus Miles upon approval (enough for a free flight in North America). You also receive an annual coach Companion Fare from $110 (USD) ($99 base fare plus all applicable taxes, surcharges and fees, from $11 depending on your Alaska Airlines flight itinerary).

Some of the resources above are affiliate links, and at no additional cost to you, I earn a commission if you make a purchase. I recommend all these resources because I use them on a regular basis for my travel and bookings. I appreciate your support and please let me know if you have any questions about any of the resources above via the contact form.
