  • Canadians Get Visa Free Travel to Brazil between June 1 and Sept. 18

Canadian passport holders travelling to Brazil between June 1 and Sept. 18 will not need a tourist visa, thanks to the Summer Olympics being held there at this time.

The visa exemption will not require travellers to have purchased tickets to see any of the sporting events at the Olympics, and the “visa waiver” will apply only for tourist visits, with visitors allowed to stay for up to 90 days.

Goway describes South America’s giant, Brazil, as “a seductive country with dazzling beaches, tropical islands and picturesque colonial towns. Its verdant rainforests boast an astounding array of wildlife, while its wildly energetic cities are home to a multitude of ethnic groups. As well as the world’s biggest rainforest in the Amazon, Brazil boasts many wilderness areas including the wildlife-rich wetlands of the Pantanal, the canyons and caves of the Chapada Diamantina and the colourful old gold-mining towns in the mountains of Minas Gerais.”

  • Canada’s national parks will be free to all visitors in 2017.

100 national parks will offer free entry for all visitors in 2017. This coincides with its celebration of 150 years since Confederation.

Parks Canada’s decision regarding the free entry was influenced by a recommendation made by the new Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in his mandate letter to the new Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna. In it he wrote:

“Make admission for all visitors to National Parks free in 2017, the 150th anniversary of Confederation. Beginning in 2018, ensure that admission for children under 18 is free, and provide any adult who has become a Canadian citizen in the previous 12 months one year’s free admission.”

Any pass purchased in 2016 will automatically be valid for a full 24 months, or else you can pick up a pass at any point in 2017 for free and it will be valid for 12 months. The pass usually costs $136.40 for a family of up to seven people. Please note that this offer does not include camping, parking, or other activity fees; it just covers the cost of entry.

See a full list of Parks Canada locations here, then you can order your National Parks pass by following this link.

  • NewLeaf Temporarily Postpones Ticket Sales

Just weeks before NewLeaf Travel was set to take off in Canada, the company announced it is temporarily postponing sales of airline tickets pending a Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) review of licensing regulations for Indirect Air Service Providers.

    flye-new-leaf

NewLeaf will refund all credit card transactions for reservations that were scheduled to begin on Feb. 12.

“During this uncertain time, we didn’t want to put anyone with existing bookings at risk, and we wanted to give customers time to make other travel arrangements,” said NewLeaf CEO Jim Young.

NewLeaf aims to resume taking reservations in the spring, with scheduled service to be operated by Flair Airlines Ltd.

“Canadians have clearly spoken that they want this type of low-cost service,” added Young. “The overwhelming demand for tickets shows the need for affordable travel in Canada. Hundreds of thousands of people visited the NewLeaf web site when ticket sales began. Thousands made bookings.”

The CTA is reviewing whether persons who do not operate any aircraft, but market and sell air services to the public, should be required to hold agency licences.
